Beginning on the road between Elgol and Broadford, you can follow the gravel path towards Camasunary and head for the sea and mountain views. At its near (eastern) end is a bothy where you can spend the night for free (no facilities), and plenty of space for wild camping. Elgol to Sligachan (11.25m, 18k) Walk above Loch Skavaig to the magical spot of Camasunary and on to Glen Sligachan. Way in the distance the Sligachan Hotel stands out as a white blob on the landscape, it's a steady five mile walk down from the beallach to the hotel. The trail covers most of the length of Isle of Skye and follows the Trotternish Ridge. We did exactly that – only our accommodation was our car! Starting down the slopes to the valley floor I felt the full chill of a northerly wind, which bizarrely warmed up as the afternoon went on. Before leaving Sligachan, note the memorial garden to those that didn't come back. Follow it north of the house through some boggy ground to gain the main path up the left bank of the Allt Dearg Mor. But (and this is just my personal view as it obviously differs from other reviewers here, and I'll try to explain my reasoning so you can see if you would be of the same or different view) here goes as to why I'm not really over-awed with it: 1.
